Backstamped by boxed Falkirk datestamp in blue, double arc Stirling CDS, plus Edinburgh transit stamp, all dated 6th Feb 1850. Contents is a tax notice for an amount of £1-2sh. Nice item

Backstamped boxed Tranent MY 28 1844 in red, and Edinburgh arrival CDS Code SM dated May 29 1844. Late usage of the Maltese Cross cancel, as the last official date of use was 30th April 1844. Outer 1845 Kilmarnock to London, with boxed Kilmarnock JN-20-1845 in red, manuscript "2" in red and London Tombstone arrival handstamp single rim. Addressed to Melvill Esq, Secretary at the India House, Military Department, Leadenhall St, London. Phillip Melvill Esq was Military Secretary for the EIC from 1837 to 1858. You have to remind yourself sometimes that British trade interests in those days had a distinctly "military" feel to it...

Outer 1879 Edinburgh to Aberdour then Burntisland, with 1d red star pl 215 letters RD tied by Edinburgh duplex cancel 131 code 4N dated JU 12 79. Arrival backstamp Aberdour dated JU 13 79, then redirected to "Shore Road House" with a further backstamp of Burntisland dated JU 14 79. A nice piece with some lovely postmarks!

Entire 1871 Mourning letter Edinburgh to Ayr, with ½p Bantam pl8 tied by Edinburgh duplex mark 131 dated AP 6 71, an unusual duplex having san-serif letters for the town, but seriffed letters for the date. Backstamped by single arc AYR code A AP 7 71, and a large black wax seal. The letter is a beautifully written request for the recipient to attend the funeral of the senders uncle. Cat of the stamp alone is £120, twice that on cover. Letter has a fold in it, otherwise very fine and well preserved.

Outer 1869 New Cumnock to Edinburgh with 1d red star tied by Square postmark "384", backstamped NEW CUMNOCK code B MY 10 69 and Carlisle to Edinburgh TPO EDINr M Code 1 MY 11 69. This is the smaller variety of the EDINr.M TPO stamp, see CSC-000204 for the larger size version Fresh item for 150 years old!

Backstamps are Union St Torquay No 13 68, Edinburgh Night rail EDINr M NO 14 68, and Dunfermline arrival CDS code A NO 15 68. Beautiful piece

Entire 1870 Edinburgh to Perth with 2d Blue pl13 letter SB tied by Edinburgh duplex stamp dated JU-6-1870, backstamped PERTH JU 7 70 with a quite superb and intact "Royal Bank of Scotland" wax seal with coat of arms. Contents are in relation to credits and debits due to the Perth branch of Royal Bank of Scotland, including a Bill from Union Bank of Australia dated Jun 3 1860 - if additional papers included in this letter, might explain why the extra postage was paid. SG47 used on cover cat £75.

Outer 1860 with 1d red star letters AC with "Posted since 7 last night" duplex 131 roller cancel. Datestamp has "seriffed letters" variety and EDINr variety (type 1b). Letter posted on a Sunday. Note the pic of reverse with a fantastic wax weal with stunning calligraphy "M and M" monogram (cut to open letter)!
