One Penny pink embossed envelope (Brightmore No. 5, type 2a, size 5) dated 8/4/61 with Edinburgh duplex roller cancel with 131 variety stars by sides of numerals, dated AU-12-1861, backstamped by Gainsborough dated AU 13 1861. -
Entire 1870 Edinburgh to Perth with 2d Blue pl13 letter SB tied by Edinburgh duplex stamp dated JU-6-1870, backstamped PERTH JU 7 70 with a quite superb and intact "Royal Bank of Scotland" wax seal with coat of arms. Contents are in relation to credits and debits due to the Perth branch of Royal Bank of Scotland, including a Bill from Union Bank of Australia dated Jun 3 1860 - if additional papers included in this letter, might explain why the extra postage was paid. SG47 used on cover cat £75. -

This is the smaller variety of the EDINr.M TPO stamp, see CSC-000204 for the larger size version Fresh item for 150 years old! -
Outer 1840 Greenock to Liverpool with manuscript "1" in red (prepaid) and boxed Greenock datestamp dated JA 16 1840. Backstamped by "L" diamond shaped receiving mark normally used on mail to and from America dated JA 17, code K. A lovely item, only 6 days after the start of Uniform Penny Postage! -

Outer 1845 Kilmarnock to London, with boxed Kilmarnock JN-20-1845 in red, manuscript "2" in red and London Tombstone arrival handstamp single rim. Addressed to Melvill Esq, Secretary at the India House, Military Department, Leadenhall St, London. Phillip Melvill Esq was Military Secretary for the EIC from 1837 to 1858. You have to remind yourself sometimes that British trade interests in those days had a distinctly "military" feel to it... -

Outer 1834 from Hastings addressed to Duke of Sutherland, Bridgewater House, London, with Hastings Penny Post 2 line in black (type 3/25 £60). As it was not signed, it has been stamped with "To Pay 1d Only" boxed in black (type 1A/19 - £50), and has been stamped with "No.1". Backstamped by Hastings single arc CDS dated JY 23 1834. Cracking item!! -
Nice entire 1846 London local post with some fascinating markings. Front cover has "Chief Office 1d Paid 2 line in red, which is usually accompanied by the backstamp "PD JY 10 1846" code 12NN (Noon posting) in red, but has also been backstamped by "1 An 1 JY 10 1846" code C, which is usually used in conjunction with the oval number obliteration. As a final salute to this fabulous little cover, there is an intact wax seal that has a rooster in the centre and the poignant words "WHILE I LIVE I'LL CROW". Very nice cover -

1842 letter to the East India Company enquiring of the whereabout of a soldier, Patrick Cassidy. The applicant filled in a pre-printed questionnaire. Notes on the questionnaire indicate that the soldier had died 8 years previous, and that the wages of the deceased had already been paid out to Mary Daly nee Cassidy. A wonderful and valuable piece of history -

Outer 1858 from Cupar to Newburgh, with pair of imperf 1d reds plate 133 letter IA/IB slightly into LL otherwise large to huge margins and large portion of stamp at base, tied by 4-5-4 bar handstamp of 92 Cupar. Backstamped by CUPAR FIFE 3-MR-1858 in green, and twin arc Newburgh CDS. A beauty! -
Entire 1848 Edinburgh to Alnwick with 1d red imperf on blued paper letters NK almost 4 margins (TR corner cut into), tied by barred numeral cancel 131 of Edinburgh, with twin arc CDS of Alnwick dated DE-31-1848 and Edinburgh datestamp of DE-30-1848. Also has a Mae West type "Too Late" handstamp, which according to records was the 2nd last day of use for this mark in Edinburgh. Great item, and late usage such as this is rare.
