Entire 1853 Edinburgh to Stratford with 1d red imperf letter KG with 4 good to large margins, tied by barred numeral cancel 131 of Edinburgh, and also Edinburgh CDS Sep-22 and London arrival mark dated Sep-23-1853. This letter has then been correctly sent to Stratford at the first attempt (see item CSC-000190)! Nice piece -

Addressed to Melvill Esq, Secretary at the India House, Military Department, Leadenhall St, London. Phillip Melvill Esq was Military Secretary for the EIC from 1837 to 1858. You have to remind yourself sometimes that British trade interests in those days had a distinctly "military" feel to it... -
